What Does This Integration Do?

ShipStation's own WooCommerce connector covers the simple case well, and for a single store with standard shipping it may be all you need — we'll say so if that's your situation. Where it runs out is everything around the edges: split shipments, multi-warehouse routing, custom packing rules, and order statuses that don't map to the defaults.

This integration sends WooCommerce orders to ShipStation with the address, items, weights, and any custom fields your packers actually need, applies routing and service-selection rules, and writes shipment data — carrier, service, tracking number, cost — back onto the WooCommerce order so the customer notification fires and support can answer without leaving the store.

Because WooCommerce is self-hosted, we can enrich the order before it leaves: resolving bundles into pickable components, deriving package dimensions from product meta, and tagging orders for the right warehouse. That's cleaner than making ShipStation guess.

What Syncs, and Which Way

Most WooCommerce + ShipStation projects cover the same ground. Multi-warehouse and split-shipment handling is where the scoping time goes.

How We Build It

ShipStation exposes a REST API and webhooks. The question is how much sits between it and WooCommerce — often the answer is a thin layer plus some store-side enrichment.

ApproachWhat it isBest forWatch out for
ShipStation official connectorShipStation's own WooCommerce integrationSingle store, standard shipping, no custom rulesLimited field control; awkward with split shipments and bundles
ShipStation REST APIFull API access to orders, shipments, and labelsCustom field mapping, multi-warehouse, split shipmentsRate limits on high-volume accounts
ShipStation webhooksEvent callbacks when a shipment is createdWriting tracking back the moment the label printsNeeds a reliable listener with retry handling
Custom WordPress plugin hookServer-side PHP running inside WordPress on order eventsEnriching orders with dimensions, warehouse tags, packing notesLives in your codebase and must survive core updates

We'll tell you when you don't need us: if you run one warehouse, ship standard parcels, and don't use bundles, ShipStation's own connector will probably do the job and we'll say so. Custom work earns its cost at multi-warehouse routing, split shipments, or when the packing bench needs data the default connector won't send.

How Much Does It Cost?

A WooCommerce + ShipStation integration typically costs between $2,000 and $9,000 to implement, depending on warehouse count and how much custom routing is involved.

ApproachImplementationOngoing
Enhanced order sync & tracking back$2,000 – $4,000ShipStation subscription billed by ShipStation
Custom fields, bundles & packing rules$4,000 – $6,500Subscription plus support retainer
Multi-warehouse routing & split shipments$6,000 – $9,000+Support retainer only, no platform fee

The number moves most on how many warehouses you ship from, whether split shipments are in scope, and how much order enrichment (dimensions, bundles, packing notes) has to happen on the store side. ShipStation's own subscription is billed directly by ShipStation.

How Long Does It Take?

Product weight and dimension data is the usual bottleneck — rates can't be calculated properly without it, and most catalogues have gaps.

2–3 weeks

Single warehouse

Enhanced order sync, tracking back, and automatic customer notification.

4–5 weeks

Multi-warehouse build

Routing rules, split shipments, bundle resolution, and returns handling.

What Does Our Integration Process Look Like?

Every engagement follows the same five stages — you get a fixed-price scope and a mapping sheet you sign off before we build.

1

Discover

We review your warehouses, carriers, packing process, and product weight data.

2

Map

We document every field, routing rule, status mapping, and error case before building.

3

Build

We implement against a staging copy of your site and a ShipStation test account.

4

Test

We run real fulfilment scenarios — split shipments, address failures, and returns.

5

Support

We monitor after go-live, with alerting, logging, and a named contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

For a single warehouse shipping standard parcels, often yes — and we'll tell you when that's your situation. Multi-warehouse routing, split shipments, bundles, and custom packing fields are where it runs out.

Yes. When ShipStation creates the shipment, the tracking number and carrier are written to the WooCommerce order and the status is updated, which fires your existing customer notification email.

Each shipment writes back separately against the same order, so the customer sees multiple tracking numbers and the order only completes when the last parcel ships.

Yes. Routing rules can be driven by stock location, destination, or product attributes, tagged on the store side before the order reaches ShipStation.

Rates will be wrong, so this is the first thing we check. We can derive dimensions from product meta or a lookup table where the catalogue has gaps.

Most projects run $2,000 to $9,000 depending on warehouse count and routing complexity. ShipStation's subscription is billed separately. See the cost table above.

Ready to Connect ShipStation to WooCommerce?

Every tracking number copied by hand is a delayed notification and a support ticket. A scoped integration removes that work permanently — and you'll know the exact cost before we start.
